Plan badges by considering both the visible design and the surface they will attach to. A lapel, fabric panel and display package can require different backing arrangements even when the front artwork is the same.
Badges specification checklist
- Outline, size and thickness, with the artwork shown at the intended scale.
- Backing or fastening reference and the material it will attach to.
- Colour boundaries, lettering, raised details and finish references.
- Quantity by design, backing card requirements and packing format.
Why is the backing part of the design brief?
The backing determines how the badge is fitted and how it sits on the finished item. Send a rear-view reference and identify the mounting surface so the front design and attachment can be considered together.
